"A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile  the moment a single man contemplates it,  bearing within him the image of a cathedral."

Antoine De Saint-Exupery
French Author, Aviator

For decades now our rowers have brought home medals and earned the respect of the world rowing community. It seemed about time to give them a proper home.

"We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening."
- Woodrow Wilson,
28th US President

Welcome to the web site of the UBC John M S Lecky Boathouse, a dream that is rapidly becoming a reality.

This floating facility (read more about the Boathouse design) opens in the fall of 2005, at which time it will become the official home of the University of British Columbia and St. George’srowing teams. As well, the boathouse will be available to members of the Richmond community, and thus, we trust, will help train and inspire future generations of rowers.

For those who have woken before dawn, climbed into a shell, grabbed hold of the oars and pulled for a dream, the boathouse is the culmination of many years of hope. For the rest of us, it represents a very special moment in B.C. history. We are contenders and we know it.
